Hyde Park hosted another successful Barclaycard British Summer Time (BST) this month, running over two weekends 4-13 July.

Access took a moment to chat to Tez Sheals-Barrett of Star Events Group, the company responsible for the 12-day build of the main stage and the surrounding structures that helped create the unique summertime atmosphere at BST.

“For Star Events, Hyde Park has been another significant success, providing a perfect platform for the production ingenuity provided by those involved, including MDM Props, Chaos Visual Productions, Capital Sound and PRG,” said Sheals-Barrett.

While the supplier list remained similar to previous years, there was one key change – organisers Loudsound and AEG Live awarded the crowd safety management contract to G4S

More than 200,000 visitors were expected in Hyde Park over BST’s two weekends. G4S tasked more than 500 G4S personnel to deliver security and stewarding at the entry and exit points, front and back stage, and hospitality suites at the event.

All eyes have been on G4S since the London 2012 Olympics, so it was great to see the company take the helm of this major London event, playing a pivotal part in ensuring a secure and safe event for attendees and performers alike.

They faced various challenges during the 17-day security and 10-day event, including rescuing a heart attack victim from a packed crowd and during The Pogues’ set on 5 July.

Ben Burrows, Regional Manager, G4S Events, said: “The festival [was] one of the biggest and best music events taking place in London this year and we [were] delighted to be part of such a popular and exciting occasion.”
