Paolo Nutini and The Pogues headlined the inaugural Bristol Summer Series – the first major music events at Bristol’s Harbourside in a decade.

Working with promoters Metropolis Music, Utopium Lights helped set the stage, supplying a comprehensive lighting production that included newly acquired fixtures.

The idea behind the lighting of the gigs was to create a stage lighting design that blended and worked with the architectural lighting around the Harbourside amphitheater.

“It was great to be lighting a gig of this size back in the amphitheater, with the opportunity to [create] a unified ambience between the stage, the Lloyds Building, and the Harbourside with co-ordinated lighting,” said Utopium’s Colin Bodenham.

Several SGM X-5 LED strobes, a Chauvet Legend 230 SR beam, and Chauvet Q-Wash Quad coloured fittings allowed for more creativity in the lighting design while reducing weight loading and power consumption.

Elsewhere throughout the stage and venue, Utopium used Chauvet and Colorkenetics LEDs, creating a comprehensive and consistent lighting solution. The company also provided the stage rig with the help of Martin Mac 700’s, Molefays, Fresnels, and Showtec fixtures.

Utopium’s own riggers also delivered the installations of the gear.

“From a promoter’s point of view, [Utopium] makes it very easy as they can come in and create the look we want, which is exactly what you need from a supplier,” said Metropolic Music’s Conal Dodds.

The Bristol Summer Series took place on 26-27 June.
