Mark Fisher OBEstage designer for The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and U2 has died at the age of 66 at a hospice in Hampstead following ‘a long and difficult illness’ according to a statement from his company, Stufish.

“We are all extremely saddened to hear of the death of our dear friend Mark Fisher,” The Rolling Stones said. “The remarkable sets he designed for us over the last two decades played a major part in the success of all those tours. His passion, dedication and professionalism was infectious.

“We all loved his dry sense of humour and unflappable demeanour, a soft spoken genius, Mark will be sorely missed, not only by us but by  any crew he worked with. Our sincere condolences go to his wife and family.”

Fisher was the senior designer for the Beijing Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies and was one of the three executive producers at the London 2012 Games ceremonies. He was a brilliant man, it was my great pleasure to seek his contribution to a number of stories in Access All Areas over the years and on behalf of us all, I would like to offer his wife Cristina my deepest sympathy.
