Max SteventonGreen Gathering (cap. 5,000), a long-running sustainability-focused music festival, has become the first in the UK to use Nordic Wristband’s new Recycled Ocean Plastic Wristbands.
Designed to help reduce the impact of ocean waste, particularly plastic, organisers said the wristbands reflect the festival’s ethos of “saving our environment for future generations.” Introduced on 25 March 2025, the product is certified as being made from ocean-bound plastics.
This year’s festival took place from 31 July to 3 August at Piercefield Park in Chepstow. Billed by organisers as the “original off-grid festival,” Green Gathering is powered entirely by solar and wind energy, with sustainability at the heart of its mission.
Music festivals have a substantial environmental footprint, generating 23,500 tonnes of waste annually in the UK, with over two-thirds destined for landfill. Yet, events such as Green Gathering and Massive Attack’s LIDO show are setting new standards by actively reducing waste and lowering carbon emissions.
Green Gathering director Em Weirdigan Em said, “We are always looking to progress and add to our sustainability action. I was always confident in Jone and Graham’s hands and these new wristbands were well received across the board. They looked great, were really comfortable and our audience loved the fact that they were supporting ocean conservation.”
