Glasgow’s SSE Hydro is preparing to host the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards, with security by G4S.

Scotland last hosted the EMAs in 2003. The 2014 awards are hosted by Nicki Minaj, and with acts including Calvin Harris, Royal Blood, Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande scheduled to perform.

G4S – a longstanding partner of the SECC – will be managing the evening’s security. This has proven to be the largest security operation at the venue to date, in keeping with the prestigious nature of the evening.

As Michael Cooper, G4S’ operations manager at the SECC, explains: “An event of this scale is always a challenge, especially when you consider the number of VIPs who will be in attendance and the resulting need for heightened security,” said G4S’ operations manager at the SECC Michael Cooper. “We’ve been able to mobilise a first-rate security operation of the required scale – on time and to budget.

“This has been accomplished by integrating several of the various services we provide for events of this nature, including the use of our canine division, event stewards and highly trained security officers – all of whom have been drawn directly from G4S’ pool of experienced staff all over Scotland. This way, we’ve been able to make sure we have the required 500+ event staff, many of whom have already worked multiple events at The SSE Hydro.

“It looks set to be another great event for Scotland this year after the success of the Commonwealth Games, and our whole team are very proud to be a part of it.”
