Burgas has been selected to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, with the competition set to take place at the Bulgarian city’s Arena Burgas (concert cap. 15,000) in May.
The 71st Eurovision Song Contest will feature two semi-finals on 11 and 13 May, followed by the Grand Final on 15 May.
Arena Burgas, which opened in 2023, will host the three live broadcasts, with thousands of artists, delegations, production staff, journalists and fans expected to travel to the Black Sea city.
A wider programme of events will also take place across Burgas during Eurovision week, including the Eurovision Village and EuroClub.
Burgas is Bulgaria’s fourth-largest city and is located on the country’s southern Black Sea coast. Burgas was chosen following a competitive host city process involving four Bulgarian cities. Sofia and Burgas progressed to the final stage, after initial bids were also submitted by Varna and Plovdiv.
The selection process assessed each city’s proposed venue, technical and production capabilities, accommodation, transport infrastructure and ability to accommodate the international workforce and visitors associated with the contest.
Burgas was ultimately selected for its venue and technical infrastructure, accommodation capacity, transport links and support from the city’s municipal authorities.
The contest will be hosted by Bulgarian National Television (BNT) following DARA’s victory for Bulgaria at Eurovision 2026. The win was Bulgaria’s first in the competition and means the country will host Eurovision for the first time.
Previous Eurovision host cities have reported economic benefits from staging the competition. Liverpool recorded a €66m boost in 2023, while Malmö reported €40m in 2024 and Basel €58m in 2025
“Burgas brings something really special to the Eurovision Song Contest,” said Eurovision Song Contest director Martin Green CBE. “It is a vibrant, welcoming city on the Black Sea with a strong musical and cultural identity, and it has the ambition, infrastructure and passion needed to welcome the Eurovision family.
“For the first Eurovision Song Contest ever to be held in Bulgaria, we want to create something that feels truly Bulgarian while also being unmistakably Eurovision – a celebration that brings people together through music.”
Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov said, “As the centre of Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast, Burgas offers Bulgaria’s most modern arena, excellent hotels and transport connections, as well as outstanding infrastructure and natural assets. The entire Burgas region is part of our team – our municipalities, institutions, universities, schools, cultural organisations, artists, volunteers and local businesses.”
