The Access All Areas Conference & Awards saw 19 award winners crowned on stage at Indigo at The O2 yesterday, 5 December.

Among the big winners on the night were Alexandra Palace, Co-op Live, FAB, From The Fields, FKP Scorpio, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and Wembley Stadium (pictured). Along with the main categories, the Editor’s Award was presented to Green Man Festival owner Fiona Stewart.

The awards, hosted by comedian Emmanuel Sonubi, also celebrated winners such as Bridge Creative, Entec Live, Evolve CSL, Fortress Festival, Kaboodle, NOQ Group, TBI Media, Visual Architects and The Warehouse Project.

Before the awards took place, the day started with a conference that included a live AAA Backstage podcast recording of an interview with Isle of Wight Festival promoter John Giddings. The interview covered a lot of ground, including him attending the original incarnation of the festival with 600,000 others when he was aged 17; losing £500,000 on an early attempt to reprise it; staging performances by the likes of The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Jay Z; and marking the 25th edition of the festival this year with the Experience 25 exhibition held at The O2.

The conference focused on three key topics; the future of festivals, opportunities presented by the growth of ‘sportainment’, and improving environmental sustainability at live events. Among the many speakers were AEG Presents vice president & general manager European Festivals Lynsey Wollaston, Secret Garden Party founder Freddie Fellowes, From The Fields creative director Cathryn Peach Barnes, Ryder Cup operations director Paul Dunstan, Silverstone head of operations for music and the arts Nicki Seifert and LIVE Green impact consultant Ross Patel. Films of the panel sessions will be available soon.
