Max SteventonThe BBC has rescheduled its upcoming live music event, Radio 2 in the Park, originally planned for August in Stirling, following concerns about clashes with other local festivals.
The three-day event, which had been set to take place from 7-9 August at City Park (cap. 30,000), will now be held in September. Revised dates have not yet been confirmed, and the performer line-up remains unannounced.
Head of Radio 2 Helen Thomas said, “Whilst tickets are yet to go on sale, we appreciate this may affect the plans of some people who were ready to join us in August, and we are sorry if this is the case. It is why we wanted to confirm the change as soon as we could.”
Organisers said the decision was made after consultation with the Scottish Independent Festival Association, citing potential overlap with other music events in the area during August. The move is intended to help support the wider festival ecosystem.
City Park has previously hosted large-scale concerts, including Stirling Summer Sessions in 2024, which featured major artists such as Tom Jones, Young Fathers and Shania Twain.
The festival marks the first major BBC music event to be staged in Scotland since Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2023 in Dundee. Previous editions of Radio 2 in the Park have taken place in Leicester, Preston (pictured) and Chelmsford, after relocating from Hyde Park in 2022.
A Stirling Council spokesperson said: “We are delighted that BBC Radio 2 in the Park is coming to Scotland for the first time to City Park Stirling, which has a proven track record of successfully hosting large-scale events.”
A Scottish Independent Festival Association spokesperson said: “Scotland is a wonderful place to host events of every scale, and the Scottish independent festival sector is a much-loved part of the cultural and economic life of communities right across the country.
