Max SteventonHylands Park, near Chelmsford, has been announced as the venue for Radio 2’s flagship event, Radio 2 in the Park.
The announcement was made on today’s (2 June) The Scott Mill’s show on BBC Radio 2 with the full line-up to be announced tomorrow on the show. Mills said Radio 2 “haven’t done anything in this area…in a long time…and we’ve got a venue right there.” BBC Radio 2 head Helen Thomas said it is a “fantastic opportunity for the city”.
Radio 2 In The Park, which will take place from 5-7 September, is expected to have a significant economic impact, with the 2023 event in Leicester having contributed £6m to the local economy. Last year, when the same event was in Preston (pictured), it generated £5.3m for Preston’s economy.
Preston City Council cabinet member for culture and arts Councillor Hindle said of last year’s event: “Radio 2 in the Park has proven to be a tremendous success for the city of Preston. Not only did it attract thousands of visitors to enjoy top-quality entertainment, it also delivered a substantial boost to our local economy.”
With tickets set to go on sale on Wednesday (4 June), Councillor Stephen Robinson, leader of Chelmsford City Council, is excited to have an event of this calibre in the Chelmsford area, “Hylands Park is no stranger to music festivals, and we’re thrilled to add another renowned music event to the list in 2025. BBC Radio 2 in the Park is a fantastic opportunity for Chelmsford – one that will lift our local economy and boost the city’s position as a top events destination.”
