Kristyna O'ConnellLondon venue, the O2 Academy Brixton (cap. 4,921) has undergone a transformative renovation, including new audio and lighting systems designed to enhance the concert experience for artists and audiences.
The venue reopened in April this year following closure in 2022 due to a fatal crush that resulted in two deaths.
The venue has gone from its beginnings as a cinema in 1929 to becoming a world-class music venue and now the audio upgrade should bring things to a new level, with an improved sound experience throughout the venue.
Professional audio and lighting installation company Adlib has maintained its relationship with Academy Music Group by completing the four-month project to improve the venue’s audio system infrastructure as well as a high-efficiency lighting setup using advanced Soundvision 3D software modelling.
A new lighting rig is built with adaptability in mind. It can be easily supplemented, partially modified, or even entirely removed to accommodate larger, custom designs.
Adlib’s installation project manager, Rob Crossland, said, “The focus of this project was a flagship audio and lighting system that would allow visiting productions to use an in-house system in what is often the only theatre venue on an arena tour. The new systems are designed to make life easier for touring crews, offering what they are accustomed to using, and typically taking out on the road.”
