Secret Cinema is to host its first event in the Midlands with GREASE: The Live Experience at exhibition venue NEC Birmingham this summer.

The event, due to run from 26 July – 13 August, forms part of the NEC Group venue’s wider diversification strategy that has seen it explore new event formats following the pandemic. These include Festival Republic’s Wireless Festival (cap. 45,000), which launched last summer, and indoor funfair Winter Funland in 2021.

London-based entertainment company Secret Cinema has held more than 70 productions worldwide over the past 15 years, including intimate grassroots film screenings in abandoned buildings and large productions in open spaces.

NEC new business director Richard Mann said, “We’ve put a focus on diversifying our offer post-pandemic, to best utilise the unique NEC Campus, and this is just another example of that. We’re a large site with big ambitions to bring a greater mix of events to the Midlands and we’re excited to see the event in action.”
