Christopher BarrettAcademy Music Group (AMG) has entered into an agreement with Cardiff Council to re-open and run Cardiff’s St David’s Hall.
The Live Nation-owned multi-venue operator did not provide a reopening date but said the agreement will safeguard the future of the venue and preserve the National Concert Hall of Wales as a “centrepiece of Cardiff’s cultural fabric”.
The 2,000-capacity music and arts venues was closed in September 2023 after the council discovered the building’s structure included lightweight concrete that was prone to sudden failure, with more than 900 concrete roof panels at risk.
AMG will install a new roof and new seating as part of the agreement, and once reopened, St David’s Hall will host an eclectic programme of events across classical programming, contemporary shows and community-focused content.
Extensive testing and consultation with Sandy Brown, the acoustic consultants who advised the original design of St David’s Hall, have confirmed that all works will uphold the venue’s acclaimed acoustic qualities, said AMG.
