Max SteventonCardiff Council has confirmed that concerts at Blackweir Fields are set to continue in 2026 following a review of this summer’s events.
The council’s review found that the show series, organised by Live Nation-owned Cuffe and Taylor, delivered significant economic benefits and was broadly supported by local residents.
More than 100,000 people attended the shows, which included performances by Noah Kahan, Alanis Morissette, Slayer and Stevie Wonder. Around 49% of attendees came from outside Wales, with more than 3,000 travelling from outside the UK.
According to Beauclair research, Cardiff city centre retail sales rose 15.6% during the event period compared to the same period last year, with entertainment sector sales up 231.2% and food and drink sales up 20.1%. The events employed 3,118 people, 95% of who were based in Wales, and raised more than £60,000 for charity.
The council said that Income from future concerts will support the city’s music sector, including funding for grassroots venues, the Little Gigs talent development scheme, and improvements to parks and green spaces.
The review included an online survey and consultation with residents, businesses, park users, sports clubs, and Friends of Bute Park. The main concerns were traffic congestion, parking, noise, and temporary loss of park access.
The council said it aims to limit future events to fewer than 28 days on site, including build and breakdown, to reduce disruption.
Cardiff Council cabinet member for culture parks and events Jennifer Burke said, “The Blackweir Live concerts contributed to an incredible summer of music in Cardiff and it’s clear that not only do they have the support of the majority of residents, they can also help us to continue delivering on our music strategy, support our work to improve the city’s green spaces and bring millions of pounds worth of economic benefits to the city.”
