Download festival has announced it will be the first major UK festival to be a completely cashless event this year.

Download festival, 12-14 June at Donington Park, is introducing Dog Tag wristbands operated by YouChip, a payment system that will work across the whole event. The rock festival has gone cashless with the aim to reduce queues for the bar and food stalls, remove the hassle of cash and improve on-site security.

Visitors to Download can register their profile and link their ticket online, then begin loading money onto the Dog Tag, which has an RFID chip attached. On arrival at Donington Park, physical tickets will be exchanged for personal Dog Tag wristbands which will be pre-loaded with the funds attendees have added in advance.

Throughout the weekend, food, merchandise and drinks can be paid for with Dog Tag and visitors can check their balance at all times during payment and at balance check points. There will also be points on-site to top up using a debit or credit card, with cash, via the website or Download app.

Download will feature headliners including Muse, Slipknot and Kiss.
