Coachella and Stagecoach generate $700,000 million annually for the Californian economy, according to governor Gavin Newsom.
Newsom also highlighted the benefits to local employment with the festivals supporting approximately 10,000 jobs across hospitality, production, safety and security, among others.
Coachella is one of the world’s biggest festivals accommodating up to 125,000 festivalgoers per day at Indio’s Empire Polo Club. This year’s festival, which took place across the two weekends of 10-12 and 17-19 April, saw the likes of Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter and Karol G top the bill.
Stagecoach is held at the same site as Coachella and is scheduled for 24-26 April. Headliners include Post Malone, Pitbull and Cody Johnson.
Coachella also generated $908m in Media Impact Value, a metric which gives economic value to media coverage.
Newsom said, [The economic impact] highlights its global visibility, ability to shape global trends, and amplify the Golden State’s creative economy on the world stage”.
