Joe GallopThe West Midlands is set to host a series of significant sporting events this September, reflecting its increasing prominence in the global sports landscape.
Among the highlights, the FISE Xperience Series (pictured) will take place in Wolverhampton from 13-15 September, marking its first appearance outside France. This event will include competitions in BMX park, scooter park and breaking. Additionally, Wolverhampton will host national soapbox racing event, Krazy Races on 1 September.
Birmingham will host the Vitality Blast Finals Day at Edgbaston Stadium on 14 September, continuing its tradition of serving as the venue for this major cricket event for the 12th consecutive year. The Belfry will also feature prominently, hosting the Betfred British Masters from 28 August – 1 September.
Notable events in Birmingham include The Strongman Open 2024 – Giants Live at the Utilita Arena on 7 September and a series of football fixtures throughout the month, including Aston Villa’s Champions League match and their West Midlands derby against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 21 September.
Birmingham will also host the official ParalympicsGB Fanzone from 28 August to 8 September, and Weston Park in Shropshire will accommodate the English National Cross Country Championships on 14 September.
The West Midlands Growth Company chief executive Neil Rami said, “The West Midlands’ September of sport provides a comprehensive schedule of events for sports enthusiasts. The region continues to build on its reputation as a significant sports hub, supported by excellent facilities and strong local engagement.”
Birmingham’s improved position in the 2024 Ranking of Sports Cities, where it has moved to 31st place, underscores its growing role in the global sports economy.
