Max SteventonTroxy, operated by Broadwick Spaces, has increased its capacity by 16% to 3,600 following the completion of a £1.5 million redevelopment project.
The East London Grade II-listed venue’s capacity had been expanded from 3,100. The refurbishment has included the reopening of basement areas that had been unused for decades. These spaces were originally part of the building’s 1933 cinema design and have been integrated to improve audience movement and overall venue flow, according to the venue.
Front-of-house facilities have been upgraded, with toilet provision more than doubled. Digital cloakrooms have also been introduced to reduce queue times, and two fire exits in the main space have been reinstated. The project also includes the restoration of a historic organ lift, enabling the venue’s Wurlitzer console to rise from beneath the stage for use during performances.
Broadwick Spaces said the project is part of a longer-term investment programme.
The redevelopment has been partially funded through a restoration ticket levy applied to events at the venue.
Since reopening in 2006 as a live events venue, Troxy has hosted concerts, corporate events, film screenings and awards ceremonies. Forthcoming shows include Tricky, Nick Mulvey, Woodz and Geese.
