Max SteventonThe War of The Worlds: The Immersive Experience, has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest theatrical run of a musical immersive theatre production.
The shows has been staged more than 31,000 times since 2019, welcoming 300,000 visitors. It was created by immersive specialists Layered Reality in partnership with composer Jeff Wayne and executive producer Damian Collier.
Wayne said the record is a testament to the creativity, innovation and passion of those involved in the experience, which is based on HG Wells’ famous sci-fi novel. Across 24 scenes, the production brings Wells’ novel to life using live actors, VR, holograms and 5D effects.
“When we first launched The War of The Worlds: The Immersive Experience, it was one of the very first truly original immersive productions of its kin”, said Wayne. “We hoped it would run for around six months, but never imagined it would still be running over six years later, winning so many awards, and welcoming over 300,000 people through its doors.”
