Norwegian company KLVR has introduced a new rechargeable battery solution aimed at reducing the use of single-use batteries in media production and live performance industries.

The KLVR Charger Pro, showcased at IBC2024 in Amsterdam (13-16 September), addresses a significant environmental challenge within the sector.

Disposable batteries are heavily relied upon in TV, film, music and pro AV industries due to the lack of practical rechargeable alternatives. In Norway alone, over a million batteries are discarded annually in music production, according to the Kulturrum Report. Mid-sized production companies, such as Sonic City, use up to 20,000 disposable batteries per year.

KLVR, founded by industry professionals including sound engineers and tour managers, aims to challenge this wastefulness. Their Charger Pro offers a “cost-effective, flexible solution” for recharging standard AA and AAA batteries used in wireless microphones, in-ear monitors and other professional audio devices. The system is designed to meet the specific power needs of professional environments where reliability is critical.

Erik Løvgren, head of production Services at NRK, Norway’s state broadcaster, said, “We’ve been unable to solve the single-use battery problem due to the high cost and unreliability of current rechargeable options. KLVR’s solution marks a significant step towards sustainability and cost savings.”

KLVR’s Charger Pro features a 48-battery capacity and supports simultaneous charging of multiple devices, offering greater flexibility than proprietary systems from major manufacturers. It includes 48 custom batteries with a 1,200-cycle lifespan and a 30% higher capacity than regular commercial rechargeables. The system’s front display and KLVR Control software interface allow users to monitor battery performance and adjust settings remotely.
