Jeff Lynne’s ELO pulled out of BST Hyde Park just 24 hours before he was due to headline, leaving Stevie Wonder (pictured) to close the concert series a day early.

Lynne said he was “heartbroken” that he would not be able to perform at BST Hyde Park due to medical reasons tonight, 13 July. The sold-out show was planned to be the band’s farewell performance.

The BST cancelation came just days after Jeff Lynne’s ELO pulled out of a show at Manchester’s Co-Op Live arena, for a similar reason, shortly before they were due to perform. Lynne performed at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena on 5 July, without his guitar having injured his hand in a taxi crash in London.

BST Hyde Park came to a close a day early last night with a headline performance by Stevie Wonder, with support from acts including BRIT Award-winning jazz collective Ezra Collective. AEG Presents promotes the 65,000-capacity, nine-show, concert series at London’s Hyde Park over three weekends. Production is handled by LS Events.

The BST Hyde Park series included sold-out shows by Olivia Rodrigo (27 June), Zach Bryan (28 + 29 June) Noah Kahan (4 July), Sabrina Carpenter (5 + 6 July), Neil Young (11 July) and Stevie Wonder (12 July).

In a statement on social media the band said, “Jeff has been battling a systemic infection and is currently in the care of a team of doctors who have advised him that performing is simply not possible at this time nor will he be able to reschedule. The legacy of the band and his longtime fans are foremost in Jeff’s mind today – and while he is so sorry that he cannot perform, he knows that he must focus on his health and rehabilitation at this time.”

Ticket holders were told they would be refunded and should contact their ticket agent for further details.
