Max SteventonIbiza Rocks, a popular hotel and music venue, has cancelled all upcoming events following the deaths of two people there in as many weeks, in separate incidents.
Gary Kelly, a 19-year-old from Britain died at Ibiza Rocks yesterday (21 July) having reportedly fallen from a third-floor balcony. His death came just a fortnight after Evan Thomson, a 26-year-old from Scotland, died from a fall at the venue.
The 362 room Ibiza Rocks Hotel in San Antonio includes a 2,500 capacity open-air venue situated at the centre of the facility, which has hosted performances by countless acts and events including Stormzy’s #MERKY festival and BBC Radio 1’s Ibiza Weekend.
Via a statement, Ibiza Rocks management said it was shocked and devastated by the recent incidents: “Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist the authorities with their investigations. The safety and wellbeing of our guests has, and always will remain, our highest priority.”
Ibiza Rocks is a popular destination for Brits, both for its accommodation and live music. Dizzee Rascal and Rudimental were due to play at the venue this week with both now having cancelled. This is “out of respect for those involved” in the recent incidents, according to Ibiza Rocks.
It is unclear how many events will be cancelled but the hotel said it will inform all impacted customers.
