Coldplay have performed in front of the biggest stadium show audience of their career, in India, as part of what is proving to be the biggest rock tour of all time.
The band’s ongoing Music Of The Spheres World Tour saw them perform two shows at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with an attendance of 111,000 per night.
The Music Of The Spheres World Tour has been running for two-and-a-half-years with the band having sold more than 12 million tickets across Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia, and Oceania, making it the most attended tour ever by a group.
The band issued an update on their sustainability initiatives, revealing that, on a show-by-show comparison, the current tour has so far produced 59% less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour in 2016/17, exceeding their original target of a 50% reduction. More than 9 million trees have already been planted around the world (with a further million to be planted before the end of the year).
In the early days of the Music Of The Spheres World Tour, Coldplay’s sustainability team took Access All Areas behind the scenes to explain the innovative steps being taken to successfully reach the carbon reduction targets.
Coldplay will return to the UK, for a string of stadium show dates, from 18 August to 8 September, including 10 shows at Wembley Stadium (cap. 90,000) during what is set to be a record summer for the venue. Coldplay has promised to donate 10% of its proceeds from the UK stadium shows to the Music Venue Trust (MVT), with the aim of supporting grassroots venues.
