Coldplay’s ongoing Music of the Spheres World Tour has grossed $945 million (£726m) and sold 8.8m tickets, making it the biggest rock tour of all time, according to Billboard.

The British band’s huge tour that kicked off in March 2022, with an array of significant sustainability measures in place, is both the highest grossing and best-selling tour by a rock act in the four decades that Billboard has been monitoring concert data.

Currently on the third European leg of the Music of the Spheres World Tour, Coldplay are set to play four shows at Dublin’s 82,000-capacity Croke Park before heading south to play an 11-show stadium run in Australia and New Zealand that ends on 16 November.

According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, Coldplay has edged ahead of Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which grossed $939m (£721m) during its run from 2018-23.

In June, Coldplay announced an overall 59% reduction in direct CO2 emissions compared to the band’s previous tour (2016-17), on a show-by-show basis, across 2022 and 2023.

When Coldplay announced their Music Of The Spheres World Tour in 2021, they promised to reduce consumption, recycle extensively and cut CO2 emissions by 50% compared to the band’s A Head Full of Dreams Tour in 2016.
