Max SteventonCrowd control manufacturer and supplier Dutch Barrier Services has launched iSmart Access Turnstile (S.A.T.), a temporary access control system designed to support crowd monitoring and entry management at events.
The system combines a physical turnstile with integrated ticket scanning and counting software, allowing organisers to manage entry, monitor audience numbers and control crowd flow through a single platform.
S.A.T. was trialled at three events in December. According to Dutch Barrier Services, the system was used by organisers and production teams to support ticket scanning, backstage accreditation and real-time crowd monitoring.
One of the trial deployments took place at a GLORY Kickboxing Worldwide event last month The system was used to manage both public ticket entry and backstage access within the same platform.
The system was also deployed at Het Amsterdamse Winterparadijs and the Top 2000 television show in December. At these events, S.A.T. was used to support ticket checking and monitor crowd movement, enabling production and security teams to respond to changes in audience flow.
Dutch Barrier Services said the S.A.T. system can also be used solely for audience counting, allowing organisers to set automated crowd limits. Entry is restricted once capacity is reached and reopens as visitors exit, supporting compliance with licensed safety limits.
The relocatable S.A.T. system integrates upgraded hardware and software into Dutch Barrier Services’ aluminium crowd barrier infrastructure, creating a temporary ticket scanning and audience counting solution for events.
The software, developed in partnership with Event Accreditation (EVA), is designed to read tickets from multiple ticketing platforms and provide live data on audience movement.
The system can scan a range of ticket formats, including barcodes and QR codes, and identify duplicate scans. Dutch Barrier Services said it reduces the need for manual ticket checking and handheld scanners at access points.
Dutch Barrier Services account manager Erwin Sprengers said, “We have worked closely with our clients and software partner EVA to develop the Smart Access Turnstiles to improve the safety and efficiency of access control for events. We have a very robust, temporary system with the same ability as a permanent turnstile system that you’d expect to see in a train station.”
