Global ticketing platform Ticketmaster has hired Saumil Mehta as its new global president.

Mehta, who is leaving his role as chief product officer of payment platform Square, replaces Mark Yovich who will stay with Ticketmaster as chair.

According to Ticketmaster, Mehta will focus heavily on AI and help bolster the platform’s security and fan experience.

Ticketmaster said Mehta will report directly to Live Nation, its owners, working closely with Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino.

The new appointment comes as Ticketmaster and Live Nation are embroiled in a US lawsuit claiming Live Nation hold a monopoly in the live events market. Ticketmaster has also been investigated by the UK’s Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) over alleged unlawful dynamic pricing for Oasis’ UK tour.

Mehta said, “The real opportunity lies in how we evolve the experience — building smarter and more intuitive ways for fans to connect with the live experiences that matter so much to them.”

Rapino said, “Over the past several years, Ticketmaster has been working to build a strong foundation for the next phase of growth. Saumil brings a fresh perspective and deep product and technology expertise that will help us build on that momentum.“
