Live Nation has expanded its Latin American presence further with the launch of Ticketmaster in Uruguay, having acquired local ticketing platform RED UTS.
It is the latest move by Live Nation to expand its reach in South America. It recently announced plans to develop the largest entertainment arena in South America; Brazil’s 21,000-capacity São Paulo Arena is expected to open in 2029. In December, Live Nation acquired a majority stake in the Movistar Arena in Santiago (17,000), Chile, and in June it took control of the 15,000-capacity Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Last summer, Live Nation expanded its stake in Mexico-based live events promoter OCESA to 75%, taking its invetsment in it to more than $1 billion. OCESA not only promotes thousands of events every year but also operates 13 venues in Mexico and sells more than 20 million tickets there annually via its ticketing arm Ticketmaster Mexico.
Marking the world’s biggest ticketing operation’s debut in the South American country, Ticketmaster has launched ticketmaster.uy to enable fans to create an account ahead of purchasing tickets for live events. It said the acquisition of RED UTS will enable it to combine local market expertise and experience with its global technology and scale.
Ticketmaster’s market leader Chile & Uruguay Javier Parra said, “We’re thrilled to welcome Uruguay to the Ticketmaster network. Our goal is to give every fan a simple, secure and transparent experience; from discovering an event to walking through the venue gates. We look forward to supporting the continued growth of live entertainment in Uruguay and connecting more fans with the artists and events they love.”
“At Ticketmaster, we’re constantly working to make the journey from discovering an event to walking through the venue gates as seamless as possible,” said Ticketmaster EVP, Latin America Adam Newsam. “Our expansion into Uruguay reflects that commitment, combining technology, innovation and local expertise to deliver a better experience for fans while supporting the continued growth of live entertainment across Latin America.”
