Access All AreasMusician, singer, songwriter, graffiti artist and passionate environmental activist Robert Del Naja (pictured right) has joined the speaker line up for the Green Events & Innovations Conference (GEI).
The 25 February event at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London will see the Massive Attack frontman take part in the Act 1.5 and Beyond panel discussion. Organisers said the session will focus on the “pioneering work of Massive Attack and their collaborators, exploring the impact and future of sustainability in live music”.
Del Naja will be joined by Carly McLachlan (Tyndall Centre / University Of Manchester), Claire O’Neill (A Greener Future / Grid Faeries), and Dale Vince OBE (Ecotricity / Forest Green Rovers F.C.).
Following many years of private climate interventions, in 2021 Massive Attack commissioned an open resource for the music industry: the Roadmap to Super Low Carbon Live Music, commissioned by the band and produced by climate scientists and industrial analysts from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.
The band has since launched the Act 1.5 initiative, covering all Paris 1.5 compatible recommendations in all emissions scopes. That model was adopted for the production of the Act 1.5 show on the Downs in Bristol, followed by the UN Accelerator City being awarded to Liverpool City for its adoption of Act 1.5 conditions into its live music licensing framework. Three super low carbon indoor gigs were hosted at M&S Bank Arena Liverpool in November alongside the Expedition One summit to launch the world’s first Accelerator City.
