Max SteventonLuton Borough Council has secured permission to stage a three-day entertainment event at Stockwood Park once a year.
The premises licence allows the authority to host an event for up to 14,999 people, with live and recorded music, dance performances and film screenings among the permitted activities.
The licence follows Radio 1’s Big Weekend at Stockwood Park in 2024, which attracted more than 100,000 people and generated £6.7m for the local economy, according to the council.
Alcohol can also be sold during events, which can take place between Friday and Sunday within a designated area of the park. The licence also places restrictions on the type of entertainment permitted, including a ban on adult entertainment and films carrying an 18 rating.
Under the new licence, the stage would be located close to Farley Hill and oriented away from residential properties. Amplified music would be required to stop by 22:30.
The council’s application was opposed by a local resident, who raised concerns including crime and disorder. In response, the authority said event organisers would work with police, security companies and stewards to manage crowds and reduce the risk of incidents.
The site is hosting a series of events this to celebrate Luton’s 150th anniversary including performances from Kaiser Chiefs and Proms in the Park.
No specific event has been announced under the new licence.
