Christopher BarrettLIDO Festival (cap. 35,000), which debuted last year, is among 25 events spanning 12 countries to be recognised for their 2025 sustainability efforts by A Greener Future.
Billed at the time by AEG Presents as the global promoter’s most sustainable festival to date, LIDO Festival saw a team including AGF CEO Claire O’Neill, Ecotricity founder Dale Vince OBE and AEG Europe sustainability director Sam Booth work to minimise the event’s environmental impact via measures including the use of the Grid Faeries x Ecotricity 1 MW battery (pictured) to power the mainstage with renewable energy.
Other events to achieve AGF Certification for the first-time, for their sustainability efforts last year, were the Montreux Jazz Festival and Ultra Music Festival in Miami.
Both LIDO and the Montreux Jazz Festival were rated highly commended while Ulra was categorised as an improver. The events to achieve the highest rating, outstanding, were Portugal’s Boom Festival, DGTL in The Netherlands Øyafestivalen in Norway and Belgium’s Paradise City.
AGF said that in order to be certified, events undertake a thorough assessment including a self-assessment, site visits from independent assessors, and post-event evidence submitted for an independent auditors’ report. Areas assessed include travel, food, energy, water, materials, EDI, and governance.

Montreux Jazz Festival director Mathieu Jaton said the AGF certification played a decisive role in accelerating and structuring the event team’s sustainability progress: “While the Montreux Jazz Festival had already implemented various initiatives – from waste management to soft mobility and responsible partnerships – these efforts remained fragmented. The certification process came at a pivotal moment, just as we were beginning a more holistic reflection on our environmental, social, and economic impact. It enabled us to align our internal objectives around a shared vision of sustainability, build a clear and measurable roadmap, foster collaborations with committed experts and local partners, and strengthen our credibility with our stakeholders.”
