Paul ColstonThe Boardmasters annual music festival in Newquay has announced it is beefing up security measures for the 2025 shows.
Organisers for the event that will run 6-10 August 2025, announced in a Facebook post that they would be boosting security personnel to “crowd and behaviour management positions” by 20% for 2025, and also put in place a 24-hour security presence with double the number of elevated watchtowers.
The security measures will be seen as a welcome news following the 2024 August edition of Boardmasters which saw seven people taken to hospital after a crowd surge on the Friday.
Other measures announced for 2025 include the festival having 25 more entry search lanes and more WiFi hot spot zones.
Organisers added that long distance bus routes would be increasing from 85 to 119, that 50 coaches would serve the park and ride scheme and the drop-off area would be closer to the gates.
Changes are also to be made to camping facilities for next year’s event including a dedicated camping plot with premium facilities, a ‘chilled zone’ which would have an 11pm noise curfew. In its Facebook post, Boardmasters added it would be sharing updates on next year’s event over the next few weeks, although the first wave of acts is set to be revealed for 2025’s festival on 27 November.
