YOUROPE has launched the Weather Preparedness & Resilience Toolbox to help festival operators design safer and more weather-resilient events.
The European Festival Association (YOUROPE), which represents more than 130 festivals across 26 countries, said the ‘toolbox’ includes practical and research-based resources to give background information on weather and climate to help outdoor events operators mitigate the impact of increasingly unpredictable weather.
While the first chapter of the publication focuses on weather and climate in general, the following chapters cover different aspects of planning, risk assessment, communication and implementation on site.
Part of YOUROPE’s Future-Fit Festivals’ (3F) project, which is co-funded by the EU, the association said its new toolbox is aimed at organisers, safety professionals, production teams and everyone involved in planning, building, and operating open-air events: “A truly weather-ready festival means thinking of everyone – providing clear, accessible information, planning for comfort and safety, and creating conditions that make every person on site feel protected, included, and welcome, no matter what the sky brings.
YOUROPE said the plan is to continually update the toolbox, and is inviting contributions. It was created by the YOUROPE Event Safety (YES) Group and and can be accessed here.
