Christopher BarrettThe European Arenas Association (EAA) has appointed Robert Fitzpatrick as president, succeeding Olivier Toth.
The EAA represents 43 arenas, in 20 European countries, that collectively host more than 3,500 annual events attracting an audience of 26.9 million.
Fitzpatrick (pictured) recently stepped down as CEO of the Odyssey Trust Company in Belfast after 18 years to become chair of the Belfast Giants Ice Hockey Club. He has been involved with the EAA since 2010, co-founding the Arena Resilience Alliance with Toth during the pandemic and serving most recently as chair of the EAA Education Steering Group.
The association has also appointed three new board members; Renzo Cannabona from Hallenstadion in Zurich, Debbie McWilliams from the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, and Charlotta Lechtaler from Scandinavium in Gothenburg.
Toth, who stepped down having completed a six-year mandate, will continuing to serve on the EAA board as the representative for the central European region.
“I am honoured to step into this role,” said Fitzpatrick. “Under Olivier’s presidency, the association has increased membership, strengthened ties with the European Union, and launched a new education platform for venue professionals. Together with the board and our members, I look forward to building on the strong foundation laid by Olivier and shaping the next chapter of the association.”
