Max SteventonSerious Stages has outlined details of the central role it played at Leeds Festival this year, providing seven stages across the site.
Festival Republic’s 75,000-capacity Leeds Festival was headlined by Travis Scott, Chappel Roan and Bring Me The Horizon from 27-30 August. This year’s event saw the Live Nation-owned promoter make the biggest changes to the event since it was launched in 1999, with a new-look offering consisting of five new campsites.
Serious Stages worked across both Leeds and its sister event, Reading Festival. The largest of the stages it supplied was a TZ 25m six-tower main stage with a 45m frontage. Goalposts supported a curved video screen, giving fans immersive views across the arena, while VIP guests enjoyed elevated platforms built into the stage wings.
Serious said that it reconfigured the main stage to meet each headliner’s production needs. This included adding a thrust, accommodating giant video screens and scenic elements, and integrating special effects.
Following its debut last year, the 40,000-capacity Chevron Stage returned for a second year at both Leeds and Reading. Alongside a structure, designed and supplied by Special Structures Lab, that supported a 5,500 square metre canopy of LED lights stretched above the audience, it was Serious’ 20m Stellar Stage that hosted a dance and electronic music programme.
Other Serious builds included stage platforms for the Festival Republic stage, BBC Introducing and Aux stage. The Piccadilly Stage featured a 5m raised DJ podium, while the LS 23 woodland venue used six Serious scaff towers to suspend an LED canopy above the crowd.
