Access All AreasDe Boer sent a team of 50 to build the Great Pavilion, the central exhibition space at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The event welcomed over 168,000 visitors across the five-day event on 24-28 May.
This year the Great Pavilion housed a 550sqm planted-up train station featuring a 25m-long carriage from 1920s Belmond British Pullman – sister to the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.
The train, decked with liveried stewards, linen and crockery, stood in the middle of a time travel journey with plant collectors exhibiting along two station platforms.
De Boer used its Delta structure to provide over 12,000sqm of exhibition space, the equivalent of 500 parked London buses, to house over 100 exhibits.

Katie Storey, De Boer’s project manager, commented on the build: “It takes just one day to lift the roof of the Great Pavilion using our robotic lifting system. RHS Chelsea is the only event in the UK to use De Boer’s unique lifting procedure which is essential for saving space whilst the rest of the Show build is underway.”
The team also used an Alu Hall to house the RHS Conference Suite, which hosted the RHS offices, used for judging, briefing and RHS member meetings.
Tucking in at the Ranelagh Restaurant
This year De Boer also built the Ranelagh Restaurant, situated in Ranelagh Gardens next to the main showground using its Premier and Anova Vista structures. The restaurant featured an outdoor terrace.
The team built the Ranelagh Restaurant alongside the Great Pavilion.
Storey commented: “We had to unload and carry the structural components for the restaurant through the Great Pavilion and we used small trucks to manoeuvre them into place in Ranelagh Gardens.”
