Christopher BarrettLive Nation said the 2029 opening of a new 20,000-capacity arena in Munich is another step closer with the municipal planning process having been completed.
The development plans for the new German arena, located near Munich International Airport, have successfully passed the local authority planning process, with the City of Freising having formally adopted the zoning plan and approved a corresponding amendment to the land use plan.
Live Nation said the new venue will be positioned as a destination for live entertainment, and is expected to attract major tours by international artists, and audiences from across Germany and wider afield.
According to research by Deloitte, the Munich Arena will generate around €355 million in annual gross value added for the city and wider region once opened.
“The Populous and HENN Architects-designed venue’s diamond-shaped ‘exoskeleton’, inspired by the Bavarian flag, will give the arena a distinctive appearance.
Live Nation president of venues EMEA Tom Lynch said, “This approval is an important step forward for Munich Arena and for the future of live entertainment in Bavaria. Munich is already one of Europe’s powerhouse cities, and this arena will add a major new stage, bringing more national and international talent to the region and creating lasting value for artists, fans and the wider community.”
