The 13th edition of Independent Venue Week (IVW) begins today, 26 January, celebrating and raising funds for independent venues across the UK.
Expected to be one of the biggest yet, this year’s edition will see 236 venues taking part, an increase of 10% from 2025, with over 700 concerts and events being promoted throughout the week.
Shows include rock duo Nova Twins at the Amersham Arms, London, Scottish band Brògeal at The Venue in Dumfries, and Eve Goodman at the Caffi Isa in Wales. Some of the shows will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 6 Music.
Since its launch in 2013, more than 1 million tickets have been sold for IVW events, according to its organisers.
IVW starts in the wake of Music Venue Trust’s (MVT) annual report. MVT’s findings noted the difficulties independent venues face, reporting that 30 venues permanently closed last year, and that those that are operational are have an average profit margin of just 2.5%.
“It’s brilliant to see our second highest ever number of venues taking part in IVW”, said IVW CEO and founder Sybil Bell. “I think that’s a very clear sign that venues want the opportunity to enjoy a positive and celebratory week that shines a light on the brilliant work they do year-round.
“More than ever, fans are also showing that they want to be out, in person with mates, being in the moment and not on a screen. I’m really excited by the sheer range and diversity of shows on offer, and this year looks set to deliver some magical moments creating lasting memories for the future.”
