Christopher BarrettThe organiser of the famously botched FYRE Festival has set a date for a second edition, with VIP tickets priced at more than $1 million.
In an interview with NBC News, FYRE Festival founder Billy McFarland said the sequel is set for 25-28 April 2025, and that he expects it to be attended by around 3,000 people.
“We have a private island off the coast of Mexico in the Caribbean, and we have an incredible production company who’s handling everything from soup to nuts,” he said.
McFarland’s infamous first attempt at running a festival led to him being imprisoned for four years, and became the subject of two hit documentary films.
The first FYRE Festival was originally set to take place on a private beach in the Bahamas. Ticket buyers for the weekend event were promised access to luxury accommodation and gourmet food along with big name music talent including Blink-182, Pusha T and Major Lazer.
Ticket sales for the inaugural event, co-founded by McFarland and rapper Ja Rule, were driven by a lavish promotional video that involved models luxuriating on a remote exotic island. The reality of the event was well documented as being anything but luxurious.
While discussing the return of FYRE, McFarland did not provide any information about booked acts but he suggested the entertainment offering will reach beyond live music: “It’s not going to be just music — for example, karate combat. We’re in talks with them to set up a pit to have, like, live fights at Fyre Festival 2.”
Pre-sale tickets to Fyre Festival 2 went on sale in August last year. Despite no site or any entertainment having been announced, the first round of tickets reportedly sold out.
