Chancellor of the exchequer Rishi Sunak (pictured) has confirmed an extension of the furlough scheme for a further month. It will now run until the 30 April 2021.

The Government will continue to pay up to 80% of the wages of employees who have been furloughed.

The chancellor also confirmed an extension to the Government-guaranteed Covid-19 business loan schemes until the end of March.

“The extension of furlough is good news for our members and many other businesses within the outdoor events industry, and we welcome the additional support,” said National Outdoor Events Association CEO Susan Tanner. “It will allow event organisers to plan their events into the summer, knowing that they can continue to hang on to the talent they have, and not lose more people from the industry.

“There are still issues regarding getting this support into every corner of the industry. The lifeblood of the supply chain to the events industry are independent freelancers and small businesses, who have found it harder to get the support the government has made available. We hope this latest commitment reaches further into the industry.”
