Christopher BarrettChelmsford City Racecourse’s licence to put on live music and sell alcohol is at risk following its hosting of Chelmsford City Live.
The three-day music festival at Chelmsford City Racecourse last month, which was promoted by Live Nation’s Cuffe & Taylor, reportedly saw major traffic congestion following a headline show by Justin Timberlake at the 30,000-capacity event.
Essex Police said the venue’s licence to put on live music and sell alcohol is now under review following concerns around crime disorder and public safety.
Chelmsford City Racecourse has a history of hosting open-air concerts with acts including Rick Astley, Boyzone, Beverley Knight, Madness and Armand Van Helden.
“We’ve consistently demonstrated a commitment to operating within the parameters of our licence, with robust measures in place to ensure safety, compliance, and responsible event management,” said a spokesperson from Chelmsford City Racecourse. “We look forward to working alongside local authorities on how to continue effectively delivering great events within our existing conditions.”
A decision on whether to revoke the venue’s live music licence is expected to be made at a hearing within the next three weeks.
