The full programme for the Local Authority Events Organiser’s Group 8th annual training conference, taking place in Liverpool on 9-10 October 2016, has been launched and will focus on how to deal with the current threats presented by terrorism.

Industry expert Garry Jones from Storm4Events will be leading a three-hour session, identifying the threats faced by local authorities as event organisers, land owners and safety advisory group members.

In another session, LAEOG will be throwing the spotlight on itself and its members by inviting key figures in the industry to join a panel session and speak openly about their experiences of dealing with local authorities. The session is intended to open dialogue between the private and public sectors to better understand the challenges that they both face and explore how they can work more collaboratively with each other.

Other sessions include an introduction to the CredAbility Access Card and ways in which local authorities can improve accessibility to their events as well as those taking place on council land and an update on recent changes to legislation surrounding the Performing Rights Society. There will be a case study on Bingley Live and the ever-popular Open Forum session where members bring their questions and concerns to share with colleagues and discover how other people have tackled issues similar to the ones they face.

Chair of the Local Authority Event Organiser’s Group, Vanessa Allen, major events and programme manager, Sport and Culture from Bradford City Council said “We are delighted to be returning to Liverpool for a second time for our conference. Its such a great city and has so many diverse and cultural events. As always, we have a full programme and are privileged to be having amazing speakers once again this year. We know that delegates take a great deal away from attending the conference that they can put to practical use to help them in their daily roles. Not only do the speakers impart their wisdom but so much is also gained form networking with other delegates, sharing experiences and ideas with each other. It is mainly local authority employees that attend but the conference is open to anybody who wishes to attend.”
