Hire Space has raised more than £1m in the last year to finance a full UK expansion.

Following a fundraising round that brought investment from Karen Hanton MBE – founder of TopTable and strategic advisor to Hire Space) – the company will be able to launch in cities throughout the UK.

Hire Space surpassed the £1m mark in 2014, and has since raised a further £350,000. They are now looking to expand into Europe in the coming year.

It’s a significant milestone for the company, with launched in April 2013 with just £150,000 of start-up finance. It began as an initiative to help schools and community centres rent their unused space and drive alternative revenue streams.

In 2014, Hire Space opened offices in Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham, and has branched out into the conference and corporate event market – which now accounts for 50% of the company’s enquiries.

The website has reportedly received a quarter of a million visitors so far in 2015.

“The business has gone in directions we didn’t expect, but we’ve enjoyed exploring these opportunities and evolving with them,” said co-founder Edward Poland. “We have ambitious plans for Hire Space and this latest round of fundraising will help us diversify our offering to our users and build quickly towards full UK coverage.”
