Soul Crusade Festival in Southend Essex left attendees waiting “hours” for headliner Soul II Soul to arrive on stage on Saturday night.

The organisers of the festival were then forced to cancel the event early due to a power failure.

The organisers of the Soul Crusade Festival took to its Facebook page to announce the performance cancellation of the evening: “This was due to a generator that surged a live current instead of neutral and completely destroyed and friend half-a-million pounds worth of sound and lighting.”

Festivalgoer Nikki Fischer Butcher wrote on the Facebook post: “50 minutes to be served at the bar; sound issues all round, headline act no show, friend injured by barrier by a member of staff – health and safety not bothered about. Very poorly organised, REFUND please – does NOT live up to expectations and what was promised for ticket cost. Management/owners of event need to take responsibility and compensate.”

“It’s something we never in a million years thought would happen and are truly sorry for spoiling the end of tonight’s show,” the organiser’s statement read.

The team at Soul Crusade are now working on refunds for guests that were disappointed by the string of events that occurred at the weekend.
