Security and integrated technology wristband specialist ID&C has awarded its third Grass Roots Festival Bursary to the 6,000 capacity Sŵn Festival in Cardiff.

Sŵn was launched by local promoter John Rostron and BBC Radio 1 presenter Huw Stephens on the back of a trip to SXSW in Austin, Texas.

it’s grown into a four-day festival that takes over Cardiff city centre and organisers were quick to see the benefit of the bursary, which comes in the shape of £2,500 worth of wristbands and security passes.

“[It] is a amazing asset for this year’s festival and a pleasing recognition of how far Sŵn has come,” Rostron said. “With growth comes new headaches for those involved behind the scenes with the increased production and infrastructure. Winning ID&C’s bursary will allow us to experiment with some security wristband ideas that we’ve had, so we can continue to take that next step up.”

ID&C’s Grass Roots Festival Bursary was launched in 2011. Previous winners were Cockermouth Rock Festival in Cumbria and LeeFest in South London. Sŵn 2013 takes place between 17 and 20 October. Artists will be announced later in the summer.
