A one minute’s silence will be observed at 2.30pm today, 22 May, in remembrance of those who were killed in the Manchester Arena bombing a year ago.

Twenty-two people lost their lives and hundreds were injured when Salman Abedi detonated a bomb in the foyer of the venue after an Ariana Grande concert. A service at Manchester Cathedral will take place at 2pm.

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham took to Twitter, saying: “Today we come together, we remember each of the 22 people whose lives were taken.”

The tragedy shone a spotlight on security in the events industry, with the subject taking centre stage at numerous conferences and exhibitions. At International Confex, Right Angle Events MD and former DCI Steve Gaskin, offered advice on how to ensure their event is as secure as possible.
