The government has issued a proposal seeking to amend the Live Music Act to exempt venues with a capacity of up to 500 people from licensing requirements. The current limit is 200.

The initiative follows consultation on entertainment deregulation by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

It also suggests that recorded music should be treated in the same way as live music. In theory that means venues of the same 500 capacity would be exempt from the same licensing requirements.
