GL Events UK Group has been named the Official Global Overlay Partner to the new all-electric FIA Formula E Championship.

In a multi-million pound contract, GL Events will supply all the event infrastructure with the FIA backed single-seater championship, which has its first race in Beijing on 13 September, with ten rounds taking place across the globe.

Each round will take place in the world’s leading cities – including London, Buenos Aires, Beijing and Long Beach, California – racing on street circuits around iconic landmarks.

GL Events will work with the organisers to create a bespoke infrastructure, including the integral pit structure for each location, adapting the offering to the requirements of the circuit and the city.

“This contract has been the product of hard work and dedication, working with Formula E to develop an evolving framework for each race,” said GL Events’ commercial director James Anderson. “By working so closely, we have demonstrated our flexibility and given the organisers’ unquestionable confidence in our ability to deliver this innovative event.”

Ten teams, each with two drivers, will go head-to-head creating a unique and exciting racing series designed to appeal to a new generation of motorsport fans.

Formula E has already garnered the interest of celebrity names with one team backed by actor Leonardo DiCaprio, while Richard Branson has entered his own Virgin Racing team.

GL Events’ Owen Brown recently won a Ryder Cup contract.
