Gallowglass Group has promoted head of human resources Chris Parry-Jones to its board of directors.

Overseeing the entire HR function for the international events services provider, Parry-Jones manages the recruitment and personal development of the Gallowglass Group’s 800+ workforce.

She is also involved in recruitment and staff management for the Group’s overseas offices in France, Spain and Qatar. In 2011 she provided the impetus for the creation of a new company, Gallowglass Training.

Having originally trained as an accountant, Parry-Jones gravitated towards HR management and labour market economics, working in Europe with organisations such as the EU, OECD and labour ministries and commercial clients before becoming the European employee relations director for Allied-Signal Inc.

Her events experience began with the organisation of seminars for the EU’s Managing Change Programme and other European programmes taking place across Europe, Japan and North America and attended by industrialists, unions, and government officials.

Back in the UK she acquired event production experience, working on major projects such as the Eurotunnel launch and the opening of Bluewater shopping centre, while continuing with her work on internal communications events.

Parry-Jones joined Gallowglass in 2006 and has focused on creating a structure for people development within and outside of the Group.

Gallowglass Training delivers accredited courses aimed specifically at the live events sector and covering all aspects of on-site safety.

“Gallowglass’ continued growth is a testament to the quality of its people, from top down and bottom up – and we are totally committed to maximising the potential of our staff,” Parry-Jones said. “In addition to skills training we focus on behavioural development – which can be a more complex task.  In an increasingly qualification-based environment, there’s a need to be proactive in developing staff to ensure that not only their legal but also their moral obligations are met.”

Gallowglass group managing director Nick Grecian added: “Gallowglass has always been a people business and, as such, HR has to be at the core of what we do. The diversification of the Group and the nature of the contracts that we work on mean that Chris and her department are always in demand to ensure everything is done correctly. In HR terms, Chris is a big-hitter and will be a key member of our board going forward.”
