Health and safety consultancy Gallowglass Health and Safety, has entered into an agreement with London’s Serpentine Galleries to support the Serpentine Architectural Programme, and the construction of the 2018 Serpentine Pavilion designed by Frida Escobedo.

Each summer, hundreds of thousands of art-lovers visit Kensington Gardens to view the Serpentine Pavilion – a temporary architectural structure designed by an internationally-renowned architect. This forms the focal point for a season of artistic and cultural events, which runs from 15 June to 7 October.

The design and build of the Pavilion is commissioned by the Serpentine Galleries and supported by a raft of corporate sponsors.

As part of its sponsorship agreement, GGH&S will provide health and safety consultancy in the run-up to the Pavilion’s summer season, working with creative construction company Stage One as part of the construction project team and giving assurances to the Galleries along the way.

Steve Kearney, managing partner, GGH&S said: “We’ll be providing risk management guidance and on-site safety checks to support the contractors to ensure safety during the Pavilion’s build, which starts this month. GGH&S will also be overseeing a number of the programme’s exclusive events from a safety perspective – including the press view, opening dinner and private view. Once construction is complete, we will assist incoming production agencies and event management companies hosting each event within Gallery and Pavilion. As a Corporate Partner of the programme, we also have the opportunity to host an event of our own.”

The annual Serpentine Pavilion Commission has become a global platform for architectural experimentation, presenting projects by some of the world’s greatest architects, from Zaha Hadid in 2000 to Francis Kéré in 2017.

The brief is to design a temporary Pavilion that is used as a community hub and café by day and a forum for learning, debate and entertainment at night. Each Pavilion is sited on the Serpentine Gallery’s lawn for four months.
