Arena Group’s specialist sports overlay division has appointed Phil Harris as general manager and Mateus Fry as architect and design manager.

Members of the Arena Group team will be exhibiting at Soccerex Convention from 6-10 September at Manchester Central on stand 219. 

Harris and Fry join Joe O’Neill who continues to lead the team as international business development director, Marcela Caballero as international business development manager (Brazil office) and Andreea Novak who oversees the company’s headquarters in London. The expansion includes the promotion of Nathan Pankhurst to head of overlay planning. 

Phil Harris joins from The Structure Group (TSG) where he spent six years as general and project manager looking after all of the company’s major events including the London 2012 Olympics and the recently completed installation of 18,000m² of temporary raised decking at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

His extensive experience within the industry will see him focus on client liaison, planning, designing and delivering Arena Group’s projects for the next generation of major sporting events.

Mateus Fry has joined from Keltbray where he held the position of design manager. Prior to this he was based in Brazil working with Iguana Sports delivering projects including the Nike 600k Challenge and Mizuno 10 Miles Experience.

He will be responsible for producing and managing the CAD drawings, visuals and design works for the overlay team’s tenders and projects.

O’Neill said: “There has been a huge surge in host cities, architects and sports rights holders looking for experienced overlay specialists to work with them to define and optimise the use of temporary infrastructure for their events.

“These appointments reflect this need and follow our successful delivery of overlay planning and management at the London 2012 Olympics, Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

“With so many more global events on the horizon we’re pleased to welcome both Phil and Mateus to Arena Group.”
